Welcome to the ESO Future Energy Scenarios

Breadcrumb

  • Future of Energy

Future Energy Scenarios (FES) represent a range of different, credible ways to decarbonise our energy system as we strive towards the 2050 target.

We’re just 30 years away from the net zero deadline, which isn’t long when you consider investment cycles for gas networks, electricity transmission lines and domestic heating systems.

FES has an important role to play in stimulating debate and helping to shape the energy system of the future.

This year’s scenarios have had to adapt and expand to accommodate societal as well as system changes.

How we develop scenarios

The Future Energy Scenarios are the result of in-depth analysis by our own team of experts, combined with stakeholder insight and input from industry specialists. This collaborative approach gives us the breadth and depth of knowledge we need to develop realistic scenarios for the future of energy in the UK. Our scenarios and modelling are used by National Grid ESO and wider energy industry.
